Turin 1917, Giuseppe Ratti, an optician, wanted to design practical and safe glasses for pilots and sports drivers. The Protectors were born, created with comfort, protection and optimum vision in mind. Originally designed for tram drivers to protect against any damage, these oversized glasses were worn by film star Marcello Mastroianna in a film and soon became a hit. Persol has expanded over years, and now has 15,000 points of sale across the globe with around 3000 in Italy. Many well known figures of today wear Persol, such as George Clooney and Prince Charles.
