Prada PR 52NV | Prada VPR52N Review
Mario and Martino Prada started a small leather goods business in 1913 in Milan, Italy. They sold English steamer trunks and ladies handbags. The shop was called Fratelli Prada, or the Prada brothers in English.
Mario prevented female family members from entering the business as he didn’t see it as a suitable environment for women. Eventually though, when the time came to hand down the business, his son had no interest so it was his daughter, Luisa, who took over. She ran the business successfully for nearly 20 years and saw a small growth. In 1978 her daughter, Miuccia (who had trained as a mime) took over.
Miuccia, despite not having relevant qualifications had fantastic fashion sense and a natural flair. She met businessman Patrizio Bertolli shortly before she took over Prada, and made him business manager when she became the head of the company. He advised her and gave many new ideas to breathe life into the company such as to only use Italian goods and suppliers and to stop importing. Miuccia, now having time away from running the business, became a designer within the company. Her personal style was reflected within the designs and put Prada on the fashion radar.
One of the biggest sellers in the Prada glasses range are the Prada PR 52NV | Prada VPR52N. These are rounded semi rimless frames for downwards view clarity. The arms are thicker than the front and display the Prada logo upon the side. Different colours are available in this model, with brown being the most popular, though there are varieties with patterned inside arms.
Many lenses can be fitted to the Prada PR 52NV or Prada VPR52N frames. These include regular thickness or thinner options (up to four times thinner than standard). Not only are thinner models more visually attractive, especially for those with high prescriptions, but they are also stronger and more durable. Anti scratch lenses are fitted as standard and an anti reflection coating is highly recommended for everybody to prevent wear and tear and damage to the lenses. Other coatings include water, dust and smudge proofing. Transitions lenses can be fitted, as can varifocals.
