    Edwin Land

    About The Brand
Polaroid is one of the world leaders in optics and lens technology. The company is an expert in polarised lens technology and was one of the first companies to produce and distribute polarised eyewear to the general public.

The company also manufactures the lenses and distributes them to other brands as well as their own. The company was founded in 1937 by Dr. Edwin Land. During this same time, fashion brand, Ray Ban was founded by Bausch & Lomb who were also leaders in the optical industry.

While Ray Ban was busy producing the first pair of aviator sunglasses, this company produced the first pair of polarised sunglasses. By the 1990s the company had developed premium 3D lenses and frames for IMAX theatres.

This was something that was unachieved by other optical manufacturers because they didn’t have the right combination of human resources, technology, and innovation that this company possessed. A decade later, the brand expanded and decided to collaborate with Disney and Hello Kitty to produce sunglasses for these brands.

    Optical Collection
It was not until the early 2000s that Polaroid glasses were launched and distributed worldwide. The optical collection consists of many stylish frames to suit both men and women. Whether you are a fan of metal frames, acetate, or a combination of both, there is something for you in their collection.

Most of the optical glasses have the classic rectangle or oval style however the more recent designs offer squared, wayfarer or round styles. In terms of colour variety, there is much to choose from; if you like traditional shades (i.e. black, brown, olive, or blue) then there are loads of models to choose from.

You will also find many frames with transparent colours, or transparent with no colour at all. In 2012, the company celebrated 75 years as leaders in polarised lens technology and fashion frames. The brand has just recently been launched a new line of sunglasses so expect to see new developments in their optical collection.
