Common Questions

These frequently asked questions will help you feel more confident, but if you need to speak to some of the best opticians online, the team at F/E is here to help!

Before you can order prescription lenses online, you must get an eye exam from a professional optician as we’ll need your prescription information to fit your glasses.

The type of lenses you choose will depend on your needs, for example, distance, reading, varifocal, computer use, fashion or occupational use.

Our skilled opticians are available online to help you choose the very best lenses for the right price. Simply select your preferred frames, then follow our easy step-by-step lens selection process.

Currently, we offer transition lenses that adjust from indoor to outdoor light for eyeglasses, and provide a choice of three tints to suit your personal preference for prescription sunglasses.

You should see your optician every 1-2 years, and get a new pair of glasses if your prescription changes.

Pupillary distance (PD) is a measurement used to determine where you look through the lens of your glasses. It refers to the distance between the centres of your pupils.

PD measurement will typically be included as part of an eye exam. You can also use our online PD Master tool and your webcam to measure your pupillary distance accurately and easily at home.

These are some of the scores and measurements provided with your prescription, which you might be asked to enter when you order online. The most common are:

OS: Refers to your left eye

OD: Refers to your right eye

Sphere (SPH): Refers to distance; shows the correction for either long-sightedness or short-sightedness.

Cylinder (CYL): Refers to astigmatism, an imperfection in the curvature of the eye.

Axis: A score that shows the angle of astigmatism.

Reading Addition (Reading ADD): Shows how much extra power is needed in addition to a distance prescription.
