Autumn/Winter 2021 Eyewear trends
Autumn is fast approaching but don’t make the mistake of thinking eyewear is only a summer accessory. Winter sun is real and sunglasses are not only a necessity for your eye health, but they also make your winter attire pop too!
Now that the world is slowly but surely returning to normal and leaving the house will be a thing this year we can start to think of our winter wardrobes, so what should we be looking out for when it comes to accessories?
Trends to watch:
Protective Shades
Builders may come to mind when you first see ‘protective shades’ and although we aren’t all wearing a high-vis this winter, we have taken inspiration from their protective eyewear. From the neon shields for summer to the tortoiseshell shields for winter. This accessory may surprise you, as the shield is a stylish, statement piece. Acetates lead when looking for a shield frame but metals aren’t unheard of.
Oversized Square
A returning frame for the last few years as 70’s styling is still leading the runways. 2021 however is seeing the square frame become more oversized than ever, sharper with a more obvious edge to create a leading accessory. Both optical and sun are popular in this shape designed in both acetates and metals with leading brands to buy from as Dior, Gucci and Fendi.
Tinted Lenses
Tinted lenses have returned, following the oversized square, these two trends go hand in hand. Darker and ombre lenses are popular in an oversized statement frame, again taking inspiration from the 70’s. If you love wearing your sunglasses indoors then a lighter hue would be perfect, blurring the lines between optical and sunglasses in one frame.
Metallics
A trend that we can apply to both our optical and sunglasses collection this season, the metallic frame. As well as the ’70s, the ’80s have returned and the metallic pop we loved is back for eyewear. If flashy metallic’s aren’t for you however try a metallic gold or silver frame which has a subtle sheen and you’re still in style.
Bio-Acetates
A trend we hope to see returning season after season, the bio-acetates. As we have become more conscious when shopping so have brands when designing. More and more fashion houses are using recycled materials, bio-degradable materials and sustainable resources when creating their new collections so we don’t feel bad when buying endless fashion accessories. Stella McCartney is a pioneer when it comes to bio-acetates and sustainable eyewear.
Minimalism
You may prefer a minimal sense of street style or your winter wardrobe may consist of monochromatic tailoring and autumn hues. We have exactly the pair of shades which will complete your winter look. Try a minimal, streamlined pair of sunglasses or a boxy acetate in a statement black or subtle tortoiseshell.
