Luxury eyewear brand Cutler and Gross was founded in London in 1969 by Graham Cutler and Tony Gross who met in optometry school at Northampton College. Same year the business partners bought the Cutler and Gross flagship store in Knightsbridge where they started designing bespoke eyewear pieces. The Knightsbridge store was later selected as one of ‘The 100 Best Shops in London’ by Time Out magazine.
Each model is carefully created by hand with a gold logo displaying the brand name inside the right hand temple. The stylish unique designs were quickly discovered by fashion professionals and Cutler and Gross eyewear collection was launched at Paris Fashion Week in 1982. The collection is still designed in London, and all frames are handcrafted in the Cutler and Gross factory in Cadore, Italy.
Cutler and Gross has already had many collaborations with major designer brands, including Maison Martin Margiela, Mulberry, Erdem, Alberta Ferretti, Victoria Beckham and Comme Des Garcons.
The brand is regularly featured in fashion magazines Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Dazed & Confused, Vanity Fair and Glamour. Cutler and Gross eyewear is very popular among A-list celebrities Jessica Simpson, Ashley Olsen, Taylor Swift, Victoria Beckham and Liam Gallagher.
“It’s nice if glasses can be sexy and mysterious. People who need glasses don’t have to feel separated from glamour” -Tony Gross
“My idea of design is a bit old-fashioned. It should be practical, functional then look good – in that order” -Graham Cutler
